Food to Eat to Lower Cholesterol

While browsing the butter aisle at the grocery store, I saw a product called "Total Control" that caught my eye with its "significant cholesterol reducing powers". Lots of products claim to lower high cholesterol, but I had heard of the active ingredient before. It was a part of a plant called a plant sterol. It was all natural and its cholesterol reducing prowess had been known since the 1950's.

My cholesterol is 200 which is a bit on the high side. High cholesterol runs in the family on my mother's side. I haven't any health problems and approaching 40, I wanted to keep it that way. I had read about statins and am not convinced on their effectiveness or even their safety. But, more on this later.
I read up on these plant sterols and there success at reducing high cholesterol by 10-15% is not disputed. So I decided to be proactive and replaced my regular margarine with it.
Tastes the same, looks the same, but it is just about 3 times as expensive as regular margarine. Yikes! Use sparingly! It says on the label to eat 2 servings ( about 2 Tbsp) a day. Sounds easy to me. From what I read, it is to be ingested at the time that one eats a high cholesterol meal such as eggs (although eggs are not quite the villains they once appeared to be) or chicken ( the skin part).
I just started eating this margarine, so I will give updates on how much lower my cholesterol went.

Total Control is a great "cholesterol lowering food" I would highly recommend this as part of a "diet to lower cholesterol"
