Glycemic Index Help

What are some good post workout foods that digest quickly after weight-lifting.?

I've done some research and says that I should eat something high on the glycemic index. Should I eat a bagel or something that I don't normally eat because I have a strict muscle building/toning diet. What I eat is a banana, brown rice with tuna after training. P.S. Please don't say Whey protein because I get acne from that.

  1. Anything with alot of fiber and protein in it. Whole wheat products, vegetables like spinach or broccoli, fruits and lean protein like chicken breast or turkey.
  2. try an apple, it has a good amount of nutrients to replace what you might have lost during your workout, and it has a good amount of fiber so you dont overeat later. tuna sounds good, so you have some protein to help with muscle building. :) im glad you chose brown rice over white rice, since its not bleached/"enriched". its more natural and is better for your body, not to mention has more nutrients. banana is good too :) fruits and veggies are good :) try it! <3, em
  3. Katherine, you are not reading what he is writing. HIGH glycemic index. A banana is a good choice. I eat it by itself as I do not wnat any proteins or fats to slow glycogen absorption into my muscle. Rice cakes are good too. Follow with your protein meal 1/2 hour later.
  4. if you don't want to use a powdered protein supplement then egg whites and white fish both have fast digestion time. for carbs it's best to consume a matrix of carbohydrates some low GI, some moderate GI and some high GI. your post workout meal is sufficient. aim for a ratio of 1:3-1:4. so for each gram of protein you should be consuming 3-4 grams of carbs. have you tried any other brands of protein or a whey protein isolate? you can also try soy protein isolates and hemp protein.
