Glycemic Index Help

 

Does anyone use the Glycemic Index as a way of losing weight or eating healthy?

If so, what do you think of it? I've been reading The Glucose Revolution books and just wondering if anyone has used this method at all.

  1. It helps differentiate between the slow acting carbs and fast acting carbs. The slow ones are better for you, and they are found in healthier foods. The fast ones produce a whole bunch of sugar in your blood quickly, leading to excess calories. I have found I feel the best if I limit the the fast acting carbs or the items high on the Glycemic Index.
  2. I use "Sugar Busters" and I think it is great. I lose weight this way FAR better than any other way. And, if you stick with it, it is amazing the sweetness you will notice in wheat breads and other things, that now don't taste sweet to you. It is a great plan, not restrictive like some. I think that Nutra Systems or some other diet also uses the glycemic index. If nothing else it makes you aware of how much junk and sugar you put into you body with white bread, etc. I think we all (myself included) eat too much sugar, without realizing it. But 500 years ago a date was a sweet treat (and not going out on one -- the fruit!). Now, if we eat dates at all we roll them in sugar! Good luck to you. Check out sugar busters at your library!
  3. As a general rule of thumb, I try to eat low glycemic foods with my weight loss system. I don't follow it to the letter. I know of others that are using the Glycemic Index and following it fairly well. It seems to be working for them. pktull@yahoo.com http://www.geocities.com/pktull
