Why am I gaining lbs AND inches after 4 wks of working out & dieting?
I am trying to loose weight,I do cardio 3x/week for 35min,&then weights 3x/week.For Cardio I keep my heart rate in the right target,I push myself&don’t just barely move&think that will count as cardio.I watch what I eat&use the Glycemic Index.I know that I am not a perfect dieter,I feel that I do make up for it if I slip.I know that you can gain weight&still loose inches,or have everything stay the same for a while before you notice any results,so why would you gain lbs, in.&go UP a dress size?I know that muscle weighs 5x more then fat,&it's the in.&how your clothes fit that count. But I am fatter, heavier,&now have tighter fitting clothes, can you tell I am bitter?I am so frustrated right now&really am stumped.I remember feeling that sense of satisfaction when I would see the results at the end of a really good week. That alone made me want to keep on going,so why is this happening?I lost the weight and inches after my other baby, why not after my last? What makes this so different Here are some more details, I eat plenty. I eat 3 meals a day and 3 snacks. With my meals this is what my plate would look like... 1/2 the plate full of veggies (usually a salad, NOT loaded with dressing I might add), 1/4 is lean meat (with no sauces), and 1/4 is a low Glycemic Index Fruit or dairy(like a pear, apple, yogurt, or glass of non fat milk. One or the other, but not all of them). I stay away from sugar, or do my best, who is ever perfect of that? I drink 72 oz of water a day, and NO soda. Is there something wrong in there? It sounds like a balanced meal to me, I am not starving by any means. I don't just eat to eat, I eat if I am hungry or to keep my insulin levels even.

- well if your not eating you wont lose any weight. your gaining inches probably due to muscle mass but weight.... when you eat, you put your metabolism way up high and in order to keep it high and burn calories, you have to eat. without eating, your metabolism slows way down and you start to store every calorie you put into your body.
- Um you might need to eat properly. But asside from that are you sure you're not just gaining weight from PMSing?
- Well how long have you been doing this routine? As you increase your muscle mass you are going to gain weight. Also, you might be doing to much weight and the wrong exercise routine. There are a lot of things that this could be. I would be glad to talk to you about them. I have been a trainer for over 20 plus years. Use to compete as well. As you grow muscle you are going to increase your girth as well. You might not be taking in enough water. There are so many factors... to consider. With out knowing exactly hard to say. Sounds like you are on the right track though don't give up. xercizer@hotmail.com if you would like to write
- it is obvious! MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT. you can't do it by scale but by appearance. you may have been full of fat and weigh 130 but now are full of muscle and are toned and way 145. you are fitter, leaner and healthier. for the part on dress sizes muscle bulges out more. after your second baby also your skin is looser and allows more fat in and isn't as tight as before. also this yoyo weight and dieting doesnt help.
- If you're using heavy weight and low reps, you could just be building up the muscle mass - even in the midsection, if you're doing abdominal and back exercises. Stick with it! Decrease the weight and increase the reps; add another 5-10 minutes to the aerobic exercise. Even if you don't look much different on the outside, you're doing a world of good on the inside!
- Don't give up!!!It gets the darkest before the dawn!!!I lost 20lb's before, and nobody even noticed. So like you I really got mad and lost another 30lb's. Then people did notice!!!But this winter I put 20lb's back on and I am going through the same thing right now that you are. So lets just be strong and keep on trying!!
- See a Doctor and consult her/him about what is going on. The foods you are eating may not be the right ones for your metabolism, and thus you aren't burning off the weight. Also, depending on your weight and body type, you may need to eat more or less. I played high school football for 4 years, the first 3 years I ate 3 normal meals a day and gained weight and inches (some of it is understandable due to my body still growing). This last season I ate more often, in only slightly smaller quantities (but still more calories) and lost 20 lbs. If you don't get the correct range of calories, either you won't burn enough to loose the weight (too many calories) OR your body will try to store as much as possible (not enough calories) causing you to gain weight.
- If your not getting enough protein and nutrition you will gain weight especially if you are exercising. Nutrition is the number one thing you can do to lose weight. If you feel like you are doing everything wright then you need to talk to someone who can analyze what you are doing and tweak what you are doing.
- you need to cut your calories. and count and measure everything I mean put food labels under a magnifing glass, use cups and scales to. If you eat out try to check out calorieking.com or dietfacts.com to see just how many calories you are putting in your mouth. getting smaller is 90% diet 10% exercise. depending on your weight you should eat between 1200-1500 cals per day. the average person working out for an hour will burn 200-300 calories. well, the extra reps will not touch a 1000 calorie whopper. oh and make the calories count, eat your 5 servings of fruit and vegis, take in 16oz of low fat dairy, take in your whole grains, no refined carbs (white stuff) and 2 servings of healthy oils and of coarse water. Richard simons and any other weight loss guru will tell you the same thing! This is the basic principal of Weight Watchers I have lost 5lbs my 1st week and about 1 pound there after and went from a 14 to a 9 in 3 months. let me know how you do!
