  1. She needs to get a second opinion and then make an informed decision. Someone that obese should not try to become pregnant. It would be dangerous for her and the baby.
  2. It may be a combination between the pcos and the weight. It would be in her best interest to lose weight before having the baby due to the strain and stress it would put on her back and legs.
  3. She really does need to lose weight to get her PCOS under control. Also, have her ask her doctor about metphormin. It's a diabetes drug that they give to women with PCOS that helps with insulin resistance...which is pretty much what PCOS is. Women with this syndrome have a hard time getting pregnant because they don't ovulate or don't release healthy eggs because of the androgens, or male hormones, that they're body produces in excess. This is because of insulin resistance. She should go on a diet that is low in sugar and carbs to even out her insulin...and then get on metphormin. Metphormin also helps the body to release healthy, good eggs. Also, as with any woman, it's easier to get pregnant when you are healthy...women that are obese just have a harder time, PCOS or not. Hopefully that helps a little bit...and made sense!
  4. Yes, it probably is why she is having problems. She is likely to have a condition called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, known as "PCOS". It does tend to happen to overweight women most often. Here is some information for you and then I suggest you and she take a look at some information online about it. Good Luck! PCOS is a health problem that can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. Women with PCOS have these characteristics: high levels of male hormones, also called androgens an irregular or no menstrual cycle may or may not have many small cysts in their ovaries. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs. PCOS is the most common hormonal reproductive problem in women of childbearing age. Many women with PCOS have a weight problem. So researchers are looking at the relationship between PCOS and the body’s ability to make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that regulates the change of sugar, starches, and other food into energy for the body’s use or for storage. Since some women with PCOS make too much insulin, it’s possible that the ovaries react by making too many male hormones, called androgens. This can lead to acne, excessive hair growth, weight gain, and ovulation problems
  5. Yes, when you're obese (just like when you're anorexic) your periods may stop coming. She needs to seriously go on a diet. 244 pounds isnt healthy for a someone 5'10", let alone someone who is 5'2". I am 5'2" and I weight 90 pounds. She is seriously obese. What she should do is start eating healthier and exercise. Those are the two most important things to lose weight.
